I first read Classic Christianity in the early 1990s. I had just left my denomination's largest seminary where my wife and I jumped through religious hoops for 3 years in preparation for foreign mission work. The denominational leaders decided we were not quite right for service at the last minute, after encouraging us to leave our home state years earlier, give up our professional careers, and enter the seminary training. Our hearts were broken, but we were not disappointed with God who we knew intended this experience 'for good.' Finding Bob George on the radio and then reading Classic Christianity proved God's good intentions! Now, after years of re-studying Scripture and letting the Holy Spirit teach me the truths, I am fully free of religion, and fully engulfed in a loving relationship with Christ! Ironically, or maybe not, my seminary training, now renewed and re-focused, allowed me to, as a layman, share and teach many, many people the pure message of the gospel.
